March 14, 2018

The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is here! On February 16, Black Panther came out in the United States. With a 97% rate of approval on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.9/10 on IMDB, the first few weeks are looking great for T’Challa and the Wakandans.

Black Panther gives viewers a look into the life of soon-to-be King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and the struggles he goes through the get the throne and change the world. The film introduces several other new characters, including Princess Shuri, Queen Romonda, Nakia, M’Baku, and Okeye and the Dora Milaje warriors. Black Panther is the most representative and diverse movie in the Marvel universe, and people are becoming hungry for more.

However, Black Panther does have a lot of references to past movies, so people who have not seen other Marvel movies may be left a little confused. To fully understand Black Panther fully,  viewers should also consider watching Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, where vibranium, Wakanda, and the Black Panther are officially introduced.

The movie is filled with enough action scenes to satisfy anyone, which feature quite a few different villains - Ulysses Klaw (Andy Serkis) and Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) are in charge and ready to take on T’Challa. Along with all the action, the film includes many rituals and traditions African Tribes, thereby continuing to represent as many people as possible.

The next stop in the Marvel universe is Avengers: Infinity War, which comes out on May 4, 2018. The movie will feature characters from nearly every side of the Marvel universe bringing everyone together to save the world...again. Black Panther and his friends will make a return in Infinity War, showcasing much more of what Wakada can do for the world.
Without giving too much away, Black Panther is a very empowering movie for everyone, will satisfy any action-fight-scene needs, and leave viewers waiting for Shuri’s next one-liner. By the end of the movie, viewers will be on the edge of their seats, unsure of what could be thrown at them next. The director, Ryan Coogler, knew what he was doing, and made a movie that will be remembered for years to come. Do not forget to stay for both end credit scenes!
